After Dinner Speech Tips and After Dinner Speech Ideas.

After Dinner Speech Tips

Give yourself plenty of time to prepare and practice your after dinner speech.

The more time you have to prepare and practice your after dinner speech speech, the more confident you'll be. Practice your after dinner speech as much as possible.

Develop a confident mind set by using positive self-talk.

If you are feeling nervous about delivering your after dinner speech enhance your confidence by clicking onto the following exercise that is designed to boost your confidence: Self -Talk Interrupt Exercise.

Find out about your audience

Find out everything you can about  your audience.... What things do your audience members have in common? What do they want to hear about? What is their education? The more answers you have to questions like these, the more you can focus your talk to something that they'll want to hear.

Introduce Humour.

You can introduce humour to entertain your audience but be careful not to tell      jokes unless you are an accomplished comedian because they may fall flat.

Be Yourself.

If you speak passionately, from your heart, and believe what you say, you will be more likely to win over your audience.

Keep it simple.

Smaller, shorter chunks of information are easier for audiences to absorb.

Make them an offer.

Offer your audience a solution to a problem, a challenge to how they think or act, or an opportunity to learn something new.

Engage with your audience.

Engage with your audience and get them to answer questions or participate in a short quiz. Don't think of what you're doing as "writing a speech." Rather, consider it creating a conversation between you and the audience.

Use Props.

Use props to make your speech more interesting. People like to use their visual   senses.

Develop your style of delivery.

Develop a style of delivery that maintains your audience's attention. How your speech sounds is much more important than how it reads.

Enjoy yourself!

Keep the process of creating your speech simple and light. If you make the process fun, your speech will reflect that and you will deliver a great speech!

After Dinner Speech Ideas

Attention Gaining Devices

Attention spans are short. Here is the 'Wake Them Up' way to keep the audience with you. After you have created your talk, go through it and make sure that every 2-4 minutes you use some kind of attention gaining device.

You could increase your voice inflection, show a visual, hold up a prop, move around the room, tell a story, throw out a one-liner, write on a flip chart, show a picture of your kids if you want to.

Just make sure that no more than a few minutes go by between attention gaining devices. The audience will not know you are using a technique on them, but at the end, they will say. Wow! That time sure went by fast!

Question and Answers

One of the biggest mistakes presenters make during public speaking engagements has to do with the handling of question-and-answer sessions. The presenter does a good programme, has a powerful close, opens the programme up to questions, answers them well, and then fades off the stage into oblivion.

The lack of a second powerful close after the question and answer period could negate much of the impact that was created throughout the program. Make sure you have two good closes whenever there is a possibility of a Q & A session.

Trick: Purposely omit material that you know will evoke certain questions. When the questions come, give a preplanned answer that appears spontaneous.
